Falken is known for its high-quality tires and durable tread in the all-terrain tires category. For a decade, Falken tires have been among the top-performing tires in this category.

The latest example is Falken Wildpeak AT3W tire, which, still in 2024, is one of the best overall tires for off and on-road hybrid drives. Following the success, their tires, with time, keep on upgrading and deliver better performance than their previous tires.

The latest Falken Wildpeak AT4W is an example of that. The name AT3W has made in the market is not achievable by many big brands; even Michelin tires failed compared to AT3W tires.

Only a few tires were close to Falken tires’ performance, but they never exceeded what AT3W tires have been delivering. The durability, comfort, resistance, and winter performance were all on the mark, which every off and on-road driver needs.

To dominate the market, Falken Tire launched the AT4W tire with more advanced features and better all-terrain performance, which we will discuss later in detail.

Pros

  • Aggressive looks and performance in off-road conditions
  • Comfortable and quiet tire for highway rides
  • Heavy weight lifting capability with smoother handling in any road conditions
  • Durable treadwear with 60K miles treadwear warranty
  • Proper traction and grip in dry, wet, snowy, and mud terrain roads.
  • Self-cleaning and stronger shoulders for a reliable and stable ride all year long

Cons

  • Very expensive tire
  • Reduces MPG due to heavyweight
  • Not excellent for fast road driving

Tread, Compound, and Internal Structure

The tread blocks, design, and compound are similar to those of its predecessor. It features individual tread blocks with 3D canyon sipes for proper traction in all weather conditions. Sipes also play a vital role in achieving great results on winter terrains.

The improvements can be seen because of the internal shoulder blocks. The tire features an all-new silica-enhanced rubber compound, which is more stable and reliable in different road conditions. The 3-ply Duraspec sidewall technology is the game changer for damaging conditions.

Unlike other tires, this tire won’t go flat or take damage due to the Duraspec technology and robust dual-layer polyester body casing. Staggered open shoulder blocks also help drive in disturbing conditions while keeping all the sharp material sticking to the tread.

Wet Road Performance

Hydroplaning on water

The open tread design and shoulder blocks make it easily deal with wet conditions. It has much-improved performance in wet conditions, with excellent traction and control.

Due to the channeling system on the tire, the tire never hydroplanes in standing deep water. The water never sticks to the tread, so hydroplaning with reliable support through handling is impossible.

Grip reliance on brakes

Regarding grip on rainy days, the AT4W is again perfect, with safer and faster rides in wet conditions. The brakes are also supportive; its short brakes make it an excellent tire for driving in wet and slippery conditions.

Dry Road Performance

Traction and brakes on fast Tracks

The heat-defusing technology and multipole tread block sipes make it a great tire for dry roads and warm conditions. The tire performs better than all-season or summer-specific tires when driving with heavy weights or on longer routes.

Even though this tire does not have a high-speed rating, the tire’s maximum speed ranges from 112-130 mph, depending on the size variants. Still, the AT4W tire achieves perfect results at its maximum speed drive. The brakes and cornering at fast speed were excellent, and the grip and traction were also perfect in dry road conditions.

Response on lateral cornering

The response was not as slick as a high-performance tire, but it was still safe to drive. The handling was quite rough, but still, support was there. Not for a second was the car out of control at fast-paced turns. So overall, the tire was perfect for driving in summer, both warm and hot conditions.

Winter Terrain Performance

Brakes and Grip

The Falken Wildpeak AT4W comes with a three-peak mountain snowflake certificate, so doubting its performance on winter terrain will not be justified. It performs exceptionally well on winter terrain as well. Like every other all-terrain tire, you might think it won’t be as good on winter terrain. However, this is different with this tire.

The tire delivers a safe and reliable ride in all winter seasons, from light to deep snow conditions. Its grip and traction on slippery ice were stable, and the brakes were short, achieving stable and comfortable rides in winter terrain.

Handling Response and Stability

The response, just like in dry and wet conditions, was great. Winter terrain tires were smoother, but it was not unsafe to drive with this tire. You might feel a little drop in performance from winter-specific tires; it might be a little less effective; however, it is safe and reliable to drive in winter terrain while accessing the other all-terrain advantages this tire comes with.

Mud Terrains drive

Performance in rugged conditions

These all-terrain tires mainly focus on dry, wet, and off-road conditions, so they are quiet and comfortable for city road drives while looking and performing aggressively in off-road situations. The same goes for this Falken Wildpeak AT4W tire.

The tire has deep individual tread blocks with open channels and a strong construction inside and outside. These features achieve higher grades in off-road conditions while keeping the tire’s treadwear intact.

Damage handling capability

Due to Duraspec technology and polyester casing, the tire is absorbable to sharp and damaged materials. So, no matter how harsh the off-road or mud conditions are, this tire won’t take damage or reduce its tread life, even if you drive only in those harsh off-road conditions.

Drive Quality

Comfort on stable and unstable Roads

Compared to luxury grand touring tires, you might feel a lot of change in cabin comfort and smooth driving experience. However, you will be pleased to choose this tire for your vehicle compared to other all-terrain and off-road tires.

Due to its canyon sipes and optimized footprint, the tire delivers a smooth ride and a comfortable experience all year round. Driving with weights is also a joy, as it makes less noise and provides stable and smoother rides on highways.

Tread Noise and Reliance

The cabin and tread noise of this tire is also great. You can not tell by looking at the aggressive design that it will deliver as quieter rides. It is one of the most commutable and quieter tires available in 2024 in the all-terrain tires category. Even at a high pace and heavy loads, its performance is exceptional.

Fuel Efficiency

The tire weight ranges from 32.6 to 83.4, depending on the size. As it is a heavy tire, you can expect a slight drop in your car’s mileage per gallon. It also depends on what tires you are coming from. If you previously drove with off-road tires, MPG might improve a little, and if you were driving all-season touring tires, then you might see a drop in your car’s mileage.

Durability and Tread life

This tire series’ durability is one of the reasons why it is so famous. Compared to its predecessor, this new AT4W tire has a much-improved tread life and warranty. This new tire comes with a 65K miles treadwear warranty, which was 55K with AT3W tires. Also, the damage handling of this tire is improved, along with other driving factors.

Comparison with competitive tires

Falken Wildpeak AT4W VS Falken Wildpeak AT3W

As we discussed, the new Falken Wildpeak AT4W is a much-improved tire compared to its predecessor, the Falken Wildpeak AT3W.

Although AT3W was perfect at the time, there were some issues with its wet traction and treadwear durability. This new Falken Wildpeak AT4W tire improves both things and offers other improvements in all areas.

Even though the new tire is more expensive, you can expect more comfortable and quieter rides, better traction and grip, more durable and reliable tread, and a rugged performance in extreme off road conditions.

Falken Wildpeak AT4W VS BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3

Both of these tires are successors of the previously renowned tires. BFGoodrich All-terrain T/A KO3 succeeded the KO2 tire, and Falken Wildpeak AT4W succeded the AT3W tire. Just like their previous tires, the rivalry continues among the new tires.

Both of these tires are the top tires in the all-terrain tires category. If you don’t focus so deeply, you won’t find any difference between them. Some visible differences between these BFGoodrich and Falekn tires are that one is cheaper and heavier, and the other is expensive and lighter.

The BFGoodrich All-terrain T/A KO3 is an expensive tire but lighter in weight, meaning it will be more fuel-efficient. On the other hand, the Falken Wildpeak AT4W is a little cheaper but heavier. So, drivers usually pick between these two tires based on these two points.

Falken Wildpeak AT4W VS Toyo Open Country AT3

Another excellent tire in the off-road all-terrain tire category, this Toyo Open Country AT3 used to compete with Falken Wildpeak AT3W and is now competing with Wildpeak AT4W tire.

This Toyo tire is a little older than the Falken new tire, so it has some negative points compared to the Wildepak AT4W tire. The Open Country AT3 is not as comfortable and quiet as the AT4W tire; other than that, both of these tires are also similar in performance.

Before Wildpeak AT4W, the Toyo Open Country was the best tire for all terrain categories; however, it might lose its spot after this Falken and BFGoodrich new tire. The price of Toyo Open Country AT3 is also the same as Falken Wildpeak AT4W, so it would be a better choice to switch to these newer Falken tires.

Ending Note Recommendations

The new Falken Wildpeak AT4W tire is a perfect choice in 2024 for SUVs, light trucks, and pickup truck drivers who need all-terrain tires. Its advanced features and reliable rides make it affordable, safe, and smoother to drive on any road and in any weather conditions. From winter to mud terrains, from dry to wet conditions, this new Falken tire won’t disappoint and will keep delivering peaceful and stable rides all year round.
