In this Michelin LTX A/T 2 review, we will talk about this tire’s build, and performance, and compare it with new and old all-terrain tires, to find out whether this tire is still acceptable after more than a decade of its launch to be driven on 2024 roads.

This Michelin LTX A/T 2 is an all-terrain tire that is more focused on the on-road drive rather than off-road conditions, and because of that it also performs better on dry highways and wet conditions rather than on winter terrains and muddy terrains.

This tire was launched in 2011, and at that time, it was considered as one of the best all-terrain tires, it also featured as OEM in some quality light trucks and SUVs, due to its versatility and configuration with heavy-duty vehicles.

The tire is made for commercial purposes and is reliable for SUV drive. Its best performance is its ability to handle heavy weights while delivering comfortable and smoother rides on highways.

The tire has some ups and downs, and being an older tire, it features old technologies, which makes it hard to perform under certain conditions.

So without further ado, let’s find out who should get this tire, and if it is still a feasible option to buy in 2024.

Michelin LTX A/T 2 features

The best feature of this tire, as we mentioned above, is its ability to perform on highways with heavy weights. This tire can carry a maximum of 3748 lbs and also delivers comfortable and quiet driving. So still at this time, if you want a tire just for this purpose, this tire will be great.

With that, the tire’s internal structure features three steel belts, which allow this tire to control damaging conditions, without taking punctures, making it a durable tire to drive in all terrain conditions.

Basic features of Michelin LTX A/T 2

This LTX A/T 2 tire features Advanced Max Touch Construction that keeps tire contact intact, allowing the treadwear to wear off in harmony. With even treadwear, the tire performance stays for longer and make this tire a durable and reliable tire to drive in all terrain conditions.

With that, the Comfort Control Technology makes this Michelin LTX A/T 2 tire a smooth and comfortable tire to drive in all-season conditions. Combining both of these technologies, the tire provides smoother rides on highways, with heavy weights, without damaging the treadwear of the tire.

Tread pattern and design

This tire is designed on a symmetrical tread pattern, which is perfect for all seasons and all-terrain drive. It has three circumferential grooves and an open shoulder design which is ideal for wet and rainy conditions drives. The tread ribs feature extra notches on the edges to provide proper traction and grip in wet and dry conditions.

With the help of multiple sipes and notches on shoulder and tread blocks, the tire grips properly in snowy and muddy terrains, which makes it a great tire for all-terrain conditions. The soft shoulder and tread help in achieving comfortable and responsive drive on highways, however, they easily get damaged on extreme or harsh conditions of all terrains.

Assurance and warranty

This tire comes with a 60K miles treadwear warranty, which is still after many years standard in all terrain tire categories. However, the performance does not stay the same after half the treadwear is off. So the tread performance of this tire is not the best.

With that, some drivers in their reviews complain about the early wear-off, so this is another problem with this ire. However, drivers who drive with proper care and maintenance have achieved more than the warranty periods, so if you want to achieve the best results with this tire you may avoid driving in extreme conditions, and take good care of this tire.

Michelin LTX A/T 2 specification

This Michelin LTX A/T 2 is a US-manufactured tire, which makes it a great quality tire to drive in all terrain conditions. The tire can carry weights from 2469 to 3748 lbs on each tire depending on the size and variants. Similarly, the speed ranges from 106mph to 118mph, which is slow, but it is not mainly required with RVs, Pickup, and light trucks.

Another great thing about this tire is its tread depth, the tire comes with 17” tread depth on some sizes of the tire, which allows this tire to remove the sticking mud and snow from the tire and also delivers more durable performance for longer periods.

Michelin LTX A/T 2 performance

When it comes to dry roads and highways, this tire shines the best in those conditions. It delivers very comfortable and quiet rides on highways, even with heavy weights. With that, the traction, grip, response, and cornering in dry and summer seasons are also great, which is why this Michelin LTX A/T 2 is still one of the best options for commuting on highways with heavy loads.

When it comes to wet and snowy conditions, the tire is not as responsive as it is in dry conditions. In wet conditions and the rainy season, the grip is good, but it loses response when there is heavy rainfall or there is standing water on the ground. Still, it is safe to drive and achieve great results in wet conditions. However, when it comes to snowy terrains, the tire is not good. It delivers below-average performance, in snowy terrains, so if you are planning to drive on winter terrains, then this tire will not do justice to your vehicle.

When it comes to mud terrains, the performance is again not the best. It loses traction and grip sometimes and does not deliver a responsive drive. For medium muddy conditions, this tire will be fair, however at extreme muddy terrains, the tire will wear off earlier, take some damage, and also won’t provide great performance in those conditions.

Some alternative Options

Toyo Open Country AT3

The Toyo Open Country is a relatively new tire in the all-terrain category, it was launched in 2018 and is still one of the best all-terrain tires. Compared to Michelin LTX A/T 2, this Toyo tire is better in mud terrain drives, snow terrain drives, and also in all-season drives. It delivers better traction, grip, and response than the LTX A/T 2 tire. This Toyo tire also has more durable and lasting treadwear than Michelin LTX A/T 2. the only good thing about LTX A/T 2 compared to Toyo Open Country At3 is its comfort and performance on highways with weights, other than that, the Toyo Open Country is a better option for 2024.

Continental TerrainContact A/T

The Continental TerrainContact A/T is just like the LTX A/T 2 an all-terrain tire focused on-road performance. So when it comes to all-season and off-road performance, the TerrainContact A/T is a far better option. The Continental tire is also more affordable and both of these tires have similar treadwear life and performance. The only thing that puts Michelin LTX A/T 2 on top of TerrainContact A/T is its comfortable drive on dry highways, otherwise in every metric, the Continental TerrainContact A/T is a better tire.

BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3

The BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 is a new tire that recently launched in the all-terrain tire category. Compared to Michelin LTX A/T 2, it is a better choice for off-road and on-road drives. It performs better in mud terrain, provides more responsive drive-in snowy terrains, and achieves better results in dry and wet conditions. The good thing about LTX A/T 2 compared to BFGoodrich All-Terrian T/A KO3 is its durability, rates, and comfortable drive on highways.

Final words

As you can see after many years, the Michelin LTX A/T 2 is still somewhat better in some metrics of performance in all terrain conditions, especially due to its comfortable highway drive. However, when it comes to overall results, it is not the greatest tire to drive in 2024. So if its cons do not bother you, and you are a fan of highways heavy weights comfortable, and smoother rides, then still in 2024, this LTX A/T 2 tire will deliver great joy to you.
